In What Ways Does This Extract/S Show That Martin Luther...
In what ways does this extract/s show that Martin Luther King was an effective public speaker? In Martin Luther Kingââ¬â¢s speech ââ¬ËI have a dreamââ¬â¢ He uses rhetorical devices, emotive language and a careful choice of pronouns to establish rapport with the audience. Before King became a speaker he was a Baptist minister, which means he was used to speaking in public and was very knowledgeable on the bible. The speech was given exactly one hundred years after the Emancipation Proclamation and was making the point that these promises were made but had not taken place. 1: In the first paragraph of the extract, King starts with the words ââ¬Å"Go backâ⬠. This is repeated several times throughout the paragraph and after all, but one, followed by aâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦At the beginning of the next sentence, King goes on to talk about ââ¬Å"this nationâ⬠, using the word ââ¬Å"nationâ⬠collectively involves all of his audience, black or white and everyone ells in the United States which is another one of his many rapport techniques. Following this refers to this nationââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"creedâ⬠by which he means the ââ¬ËAmerican Declaration of Independenceââ¬â¢. This is the second time King has hinted at the American Declaration of Independence in this extract. It is a reoccurring them of the ââ¬ËI have a dreamââ¬â¢ speech, however this is the only time in this extract that he directly quotes from it. When he says the quote, King stresses the word ââ¬Å"allâ⬠in the phrase ââ¬Å"that all men are created e qualâ⬠. This is an obvious yet effective way of emphasising his point that everyone not just white men should be equal. 5: Furthermore, king depicts ââ¬Å"former slaves and former slaves ownersâ⬠sitting down together ââ¬Å"at the table of brotherhoodâ⬠. The word former gives the clear message that the slave trade had come to an end and is in the passed. When King mentions ââ¬Å"the table of brotherhoodâ⬠he uses this as a metaphor for white and black people being at the same level but also literally, sitting and eating at the same table. It could also be taken as a biblical link to the last supper or other similar bible stories, but as it is not that obvious, he probably never intended it to be. In the next paragraph King portrays his point by using lots of metaphoric and emotive language.Show MoreRelatedLogical Reasoning189930 Words à |à 760 Pages2011-14 by Bradley H. Essay about A Critique Of On Dumpster Diving Essay A Critique of On Dumpster DivingAccording to Mayberry (2009) Lars Eighner, a graduate of the University of Texas, became homeless in 1988 and again in 1995 (p. 351). Some of the accounts from Travels with Lisbeth (1993), a book by Lars Eighner, depicted what he went through and what he found during his homeless state. A homeless person must eat and sleep but may not know where or when this might happen next. The human will to survive enabled Eighner to eat food from a dumpster, reach out to other for handouts, and sleep in places other than a bed with covers. To Survive One Must EatThe majority of the population enjoys a breakfast from the comfort of his or her home. There are those that have no home and no idea where their next meal may come from. These people are considered homeless. In fact Pearce (2013) stated that officials around the country cited a lack of affordable housing as a factor in persistent homelessness. Nineteen percent of the cities homeless adults had jobs, including 22 percent of those in San Francisco (para. 10). Lars Eighner knows exactly what is it like t.

Employee Relations Policies
Question: Discuss about the Employee Relations Policies. Answer: Introduction: Employment relation can be explained as the term that is related to the development and maintenance of the relation between the employer and the employee. Employer needs to implement the practices in the organization that benefits the employee to maintain the relationship and so as to motivate the employees to perform (Gill Meyer, 2013). As per the case, it has been identified that the former owners of the company were not concerned about their employees and only concentrates on getting output from them for companys business. They were not even paying attention to the safety of the workers and this has made that place worse to work with. This suggests that companies need to implement some of the strategies that help the employee o stick to the company for longer time. Current situation analysis: After analyzing the case study, it has been observed that Top Trucking Company is doing very well with its business but at the same time employees of the company are not happy with this (Larsen Navrbjerg, 2015). The autocratic nature of the former manager of the company leads to high employee turnover. The autocratic yard manager believes in delegating the duties to the employees according to his own concern. Under his leadership, the employees were not allowed to share their views regarding any important decision taken in the company. The owners of the company were not making expenses on repairing and improving their infrastructure that results in increase in number of accidents at the factory site (Staniuliene, 2013). This is a big concern as it is related to the safety of an individual. Thus, the scenario has become very worse and the employees were continuously showing their dissatisfaction towards the companys management but no efforts were made from the companys side. After th e handover of ownership of the company, many changes have brought up in the processes that have made the companys situation better. Requirement of change: There are many drivers identified in the case that can drive the changes in the companys structure and management. The first element that drives the need for change in the company is the high dissatisfaction level of the employees in the company. Due to autocratic leadership of the former manager, the employees were very dissatisfied and declared that Top Trucking is the worst place to work (Karnes, 2009). The structure of the organization is such that it does not pay attention to the needs of the employees but the only concentration is on the performance at the organizational level. The management only wants to increase the output of the company. The employees can only work for shorter period under pressure but to retain them for longer period, the company has to implement changes that are in concern with the employees. It is also important to bring those changes gradually so that employees can adopt them easily. It is not only the management that has created mess in the organizatio n but the owners of the company has also not paid attention to the requirements and needs of the employees (Tansel S?aziye, 2014). Even the basic safety needs of the employee were not fulfilled at the time of family ownership. This irresponsible attitude towards the organization has resulted in accidents at the workplace and thus left the employees dissatisfied. Risk associated with sustaining the changes: It is easy to implement the change but it is difficult to sustain with those changes in the situation. As per the case, it has been observed that initially George and the new manger were not in the same line of thought about the changes implemented. But, the happy realization of George supported the manager as well as the employees to bring out the changes (Gennard, 2009). If the condition of arguments between George and manager was not sorted then it could have been a difficult task to implement those changes. The major risk associated with the changes is the strikes by the workers. As George is the union representative of the union of workers so he has the power and the potential to manipulate thinking of the workers towards the management. So, it was very important to convince and impress the union representative with the new changes. Changes and the new practices: Many changes have been observed in the organizational culture and practices after appointing the new managers as well as after shifting of the ownership. The new practices that have been implemented in the company are not only related to the organizational output but also to the individual output. The alignment of the strategies at individual and organizational level is the basis of this change. The company was bought by big national transport group and this has become the initiation of change implementation. The first change is done in consideration with the improvement in working environment (Branine, Ahmed, Otmane Mellahi, 2008). The new company has enough funds to repair the infrastructure of the company as well as to repair the trucks used by the workers. The efforts have been made by the company to clean the yards that provides a safe working environment to the employees. The company has issued new uniforms to the drivers. The implementation of such practices and efforts by th e company has created a sense of belongings among the employees. This feeling among the employees motivates them to work for the company. As per the case study, operations of the company are functioning very well, but these extra efforts in the benefit of the employees supports this functioning for longer period of time. The second change that has been implemented in the organization is related to the managerial approach (Ntalianis, Dyer Vandenberghe, 2015). The participative managerial approach has been followed by the new manager. This helps the employees to involve in the important decision making process. Under this managerial approach, the employees have the freedom to speak up their minds. The manager of the company does not take any decision to resolve the issues without concerning the relevant employees. The new manger never takes the decision on his own, but investigates about the issue and considers the call of every aspect before making any decision. This approach suppor ts the employees to grow at individual level. The basic need of the employees at workplace is their safety which was not a concern of the firmer manager and the owner of the company. The new owners of the company have made efforts to spend some of the amount in repairing of the trucks and the workplace so that the employees feel safe to work and deal with the machinery (Burns, 2012). With this, the management also initiated the culture of providing training to the employees at general and technical level. This supports the employees engage in the workplace functioning with interest as they are getting the chance to develop their skills as individual level as well. The alignment of the strategies at individual and organizational level helps the organization to achieve its goals. The employees also feel that they are the part of the company and try to work with full zeal and efforts (Gennard Judge, 2010). How these practices complement each other: All the new practices from participative approach to health and safety complement each other in one of the other way. This is because all the new changes that have been implemented in the organization are related to development and maintenance of the employee relations. It has been analyzed that the new practices of the organization has provided positive results for the organization as well as for employees. Issuing of new uniform and installation of compute system is done in order to create a fresh and motivating environment at the workplace. As the new computer system has installed, so it require the organization to provide training to the employees that helps in development of the employees at individual level. Introduction of participative managerial approach has also been done to motivate the employees and to create the feeling of sense of belongingness amongst them, so, it has been concluded that all the practices that has been implemented are in complement with each other. What is Union Union is the group of employees in the organization that work under a particular department. Every union has a union representative that led the union and act as the mediator between the employer and the employees. The practice of unions helps the organization to communicate with the employees easily (Giuliani Kurson, 2007). Transport worker union: Transport workers union is the union of the blue collared employees that works under the jobs such as machinery work, factory work, labor etc. (Rollo, 2009). These unions are not that much educated and thus do not have the knowledge to provide their opinions at the management level. Therefore, their involvement in the workplace changes is less. They have low economic background and thus they themselves are interested only with the practices that affect their wages and salaries. Therefore, the involvement of transport unions in the workplace changes decision is too less than sector unions. Public sector union: These unions are related to the jobs at service level. These employees that constitute the public sector union are educated and have the skills to involve at the management level. They are more involved in making decision for workplace changes because they have the relevant knowledge and the skills (Bratton, 2017). They are the people with professional degrees and qualification and this makes them eligible to involve in the workplace changes decisions. The management also considers the service sector union to provide their views because according to the company also, the unions or the employees have the best of their knowledge of their fields. Conclusion: To conclude, it can be said that employee relation is very important for a company. The company should always try to come up with new ideas and strategies to motivate the employees in organization. This is because maintaining the relation with the employees helps the employees to develop their skills and thus help the organization to achieve their objectives (Aguinis, 2014). According to the above analysis, it has been identified that the approach of managers plays a very important part in maintaining relationship with the employees. The correct approach by the new manager in the above case has helped the employees to develop themselves and retain them in the organization. This is very important for long-term success of the organization to retain its employees and also to satisfy them with the working environment and the policies. References: Aguinis, H. Ghibertis Baptistry Doors (3Rd Set) Essays - Book Of Genesis
Ghiberti's Baptistry Doors (3Rd Set) The work of art that I chose to do my research paper on was Ghiberti's 3rd set of Baptistry Doors. These doors are known as The Gates of Paradise. The doors were commissioned in 1427; they were finally completed and installed in 1452 at the eastern entrance of the Baptistry of San Giovanni. The replication of the doors is located in San Francisco, at Grace Cathedral. The doors consist of ten square panels, gilded together. Surrounding the panels are small heads, floral motifs, and niches that contain miniature statues of Prophets. Leonardo Bruni created the iconographic formula, taken from stories of the Old Testament. Ghiberti followed the plans and created 10 scenes ranging from the Creation of Adam and Eve to the reign of King Solomon. The top left panel is the scene of the Creation, Temptation and Expulsion of Adam and Eve. The top right panel is the scene of Cain murdering Abel. The next panel is of Noah and the Flood; then Abraham sacrificing Isaac; Jacob and Esau; Joseph being sold into slavery by his brothers; Moses receiving the Ten Commandments; Joshua and the battle of Jericho; David and Goliath; and finally Solomon and the Queen of Sheba. All the panels were gilded in gold, giving them a uniform and seamless perspective. Ghiberti was a master of using perspective in his works. The attention to detail is apparent when you examine closely the sculpted figures in each panel. They all seem three-dimensional. The way in which Ghiberti sculpted each figure, gives them a shadow against the background which is key to the three-dimensional perspective of each figure. The way in which the panels were positioned on the doors is interesting. Instead of using smaller panels, which would allow for more scenes, Ghiberti chose to use large panels that are easy to see. The miniature figures and heads surrounding the ten panels is another interesting point. The full body figures are Prophets. There are 20 prophets surrounding the panels. Most likely they were also taken from the Old Testament. Each of these prophets is in the motion of some type of action. Their action is probably what they were known for and why they became Prophets. Again, Ghiberti gives each a three-dimensional pose. He is past the old ways of symmetry and each figure looks realistic in pose. They have a weight shifted stance that adds to the realism of each. The detail on each is also magnificent. The folds in the garment are clearly depicted. The way the clothes drape on the bodies is also realistic. They gather more on one side as opposed to the other side. The way the bodies limbs press underneath the garments also show great attention to detail. There are 24 heads also placed on the outside of the panels. The people that these heads depict are unknown. The only head that is known is of Ghiberti himself. His head is located at the lower right corner of the Jacob and Esau panel. As you can tell by his self-portrayal, Ghiberti was a man about 30-40 years of age. Again, Ghiberti chose to pay great attention to detail for these heads. The way the heads were fashioned is like the techniques used by the Romans. Their heads come out of a circular ring, and part of their upper body is visible. The ways in which the heads are sculpted give them a background shadow that adds to their three-dimensionalism. Its been argued that the people that these heads represent friends of Ghiberti. The perspective used in each of the panels is unique. They all use linear perspective, which Ghiberti became known for. Like Massacio, Ghiberti used the perspective of building and how they relate to certain viewpoints. As the figures and buildings recede into the background, they all have a certain detail of spatial depth. The figures and buildings in the background are considerably smaller than those in the foreground are. The scenery in the background adds to the sense of depth in the panels. If you look at a certain panel, the horizon extends well past the current scene in each panel. Ghiberti knew how to use the vanishing point

Free Essays on Hedda Gabler
In Henrik Ibsenââ¬â¢s play Hedda Gabler, the main character, Hedda Tesman represents a manipulative and powerful young woman seeking to control the lives of those around her. Although Hedda lives in the Victorian era where the women are to live in the shadow of the men, she defines herself negatively. Hedda destroys the things which she cannot accept. The critic John Northam defends Heddaââ¬â¢s character when he states in Ibsen: A Critical Study, ââ¬Å"Hedda is caught in the contradiction of being simultaneously a person whose deepest urges are towards a poetry of living- defined at least approximately by her recurrent use of key terms- but whose social position has educated her to accept [. . .] the restraints demanded by society. The basic conflict is between the self and society (180). Though Hedda lives in a society that suppresses restraints on the women, it gives her no right to be an unworthy, detestable, repulsive, despicable human being. In Act I, it demonstrates a pathological quality of Heddaââ¬â¢s personality early on. Hedda cruelly insults Aunt Julia by complaining that the servant left her bonnet lying in the chair, ââ¬Å"Look there! She has left her old bonnet lying about on a chairâ⬠(9). Hedda is never satisfied with anything and she always feels a need to stir up some sort of commotion. By complaining about the bonnet left on the chair, Hedda tries to undermine Aunt Juliaââ¬â¢s sense of worth. Again in Act I, Hedda shows more of her negative side when she demonstrates characteristics of manipulation and control. When Hedda and Thea are conversing in the parlor, Hedda insist that they use the familiar form of you when speaking to each other, ââ¬Å"No, not at all! I can remember quite distinctly. Free Essays on Hedda Gabler Free Essays on Hedda Gabler In Henrik Ibsenââ¬â¢s play Hedda Gabler, the main character, Hedda Tesman represents a manipulative and powerful young woman seeking to control the lives of those around her. The main characters are Hedda, the well-bred aristocratic daughter of the famous General Gabler, George Tesman, Heddaââ¬â¢s newlywed husband and an intelligent scholar, Juliana Tesman, Georgeââ¬â¢s aunt who supports and raised him, Mrs. Thea Elvsted, a childhood friend of Heddaââ¬â¢s, Judge Brack, a worldly and cynical man who likes to meddle in peopleââ¬â¢s affairs, and Eilert Loevborg, Tesmanââ¬â¢s biggest academic competitor and a former suitor of Heddas. The play starts off as Hedda and George are just getting back from their six-month honeymoon. George has gone through great lengths to purchase the house that he thinks Hedda so badly desires. He is not a rich man and Hedda is accustomed to living a wealthy lifestyle. Hedda does not love George, but he is ignorant to that fact. She has only married him because she thought he had more money than he really does. Hedda thinks it will be a marriage of convenience. She is bored with his dull personality and despises his family and the fact that she is tied there. Throughout the play it is hinted that Hedda is pregnant. She confides to Judge Brack that ââ¬Ëshe has made her bed and now she must lie in it.ââ¬â¢ Hedda is deeply stirred by the return of her former suitor, Eilert Loevborg. He was once a drunk and a public outcast, but now is an aspiring writer and scholar. Eilert has a close relationship with Mrs. Elvsted. Together they have written a brilliant manuscript, which is portrayed as ââ¬Ëtheir childââ¬â¢. Their relationship makes Hedda extremely jealous. One night all the men go out drinking and Eilert ends up losing the manuscript on his way home. He is so ashamed he cannot remember what happened to it that he lies to Mrs. Elvsted and tells her he destroyed it. George found the manuscript and brought it home with intentions to give it back to Eilert after he sobers up. In the meanti...
